Hi, I’m John.
I was working full time for a company, and on my days off I was fixing things for friends and family. Word got around the way it does — somebody I’d helped would pass my number on, or somebody would see the work and ask who did it — and pretty soon it was more than a weekend warrior could keep up with. When I talked it over at home, what I kept coming back to was how much I liked those days off. New people, and every project done the way that customer wanted it done.
I gave notice, and I’ve been on my own for ten years since.
How I work
Honesty, reliability, integrity. You get an estimate before I start, and if something turns out bigger than it looked, you hear it from me while there's still a choice about it.
What people mention most is that I'm easy to have in the house, and that I leave it tidy. Drop cloths go down first, and the dust and offcuts leave when I do.
Who I'm looking for
Someone I can build an ongoing relationship with. Most of my work still arrives by word of mouth, and the customers I like best call again — it’s easier on both of us once I know the house. One family in Golden first called me about a deck board and a couple of sealing jobs. Since then it’s been a deck stair and three doors that were sticking, and now a plan for a calcite filter on their water.
